Homeless point-in-time count expected next week

The Upper Cumberland Continuum of Care will participate in a homeless point-in-time count from Tuesday at noon until Wednesday at noon.

Community Homeless Outreach and Support, Inc. (Brooks House) volunteered to be responsible for gathering and reporting Wilson County homeless numbers during the time frame.

Brooks House volunteers will send out forms to those organizations who have worked with them in the past by email or fax to get a sheltered count of the homeless (all homeless, both sheltered and unsheltered) during the time frame.

To get an unsheltered count of homeless or those persons who are living in a tent, abandoned building, car, shed or other place not meant for human habitation, the group is asking for the community’s help, said Brooks House Director Liz Reese. If an organization or church encounters someone during this time frame in need of help or has encountered homelessness, call the office at 615-444-8882 and ask for Reese to report the information.

Information can be given anonymously. This information will be used to support the need for funding to help those in Wilson County who are homeless.

“If you serve homeless persons and we have missed your organization in the past, please let us know so we can add you to our participation list,” Reese said. “We know there are so many of you who work hard to help those who are homeless in Wilson County that we do not know about, and we invite you to be a partner with us to end homelessness in our communities.”
