Local church to celebrate Mardi Gras

Staff Reports • Dec 17, 2015 at 6:03 PM

The annual Mardi Gras celebration will be Tuesday from 6-8:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Lebanon.

The event will feature a free, family-friendly Cajun dinner. Live music, mask making for children and colorful beads for all ages will also be featured at the event. A free-will offering will be taken for Habitat for Humanity.

This traditional, festive party on “Fat Tuesday” is observed by many Christians worldwide before the season of Lent begins the next day with Ash Wednesday.

The imposition of ashes and Holy Communion is open to the community Wednesday at noon and 6:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. An evening prayer service will be held each Wednesday during Lent through April 9 at 6:30 p.m., with a soup supper at 5:30 p.m.  The season of Lent, the 40 days before Easter, concludes with Holy Week and 6:30 p.m. services on Maundy Thursday (the Last Supper), Good Friday and the Saturday evening Easter Vigil.

Faith Lutheran Church is at 1655 W. Main St. in Lebanon, with Sunday school at 9 a.m. followed by worship at 10 a.m. weekly. Call 615-449-5480 for more information.
