A FedEx trailer caught fire early Tuesday morning on Interstate 40.
Lebanon Assistant Fire Chief Jason Baird said they got a call at around 4:15 a.m. reporting that one wheel of the trailer was on fire near the 232-mile marker on I-40.
Baird said the fire was only on one wheel, but it also burned through the floor of the trailer and caught a pallet of grass seed inside the trailer on fire as well.
“What it was the brakes overheated and caught the tire on fire and subsequently caught fire underneath the trailer, which burned through the floor and into the pallet,” Baird said.
He said firefighters extinguished the fire around the wheel and under the trailer from the outside and extinguished the pallet of grass after entering the trailer.
Baird said the trailer received about 30 percent damage from the fire.
