A private act asking for a 1-percent increase in Wilson County’s hotel/motel tax died in legislative committee.

Rep. Mark Pody, who carried the bill, said Thursday the act failed in the Local Government Subcommittee on Wednesday. The act failed to get a second. Pody said Wilson County’s request was not the only one denied.

“There were four of them, and they all died,” Pody said

He said each of them is dead until next session, when they could be reintroduced.

Another private act requested by the county has yet to be taken through committee. Pody said a bill requesting a $1 fee added to ticket sales at the Ward Ag Center was sent to the attorney general.

“We asked for an attorney general opinion on whether the legislature has to do something for that or if the county has the authority to do that on its own,” Pody said.
