Wilson County’s observance of the 2014 National Day of Prayer will be May 1 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lebanon at 227 E. Main St.

“We would like to invite everyone who believes in the power of prayer and has a heart for the soul of our nation to come and join us in this celebration of faith and freedom,” event organizer Robin Hardin said. “There will be live music from 11:30 a.m. until noon and then a special time of prayer and intercession from noon until 1 p.m.”

The National Day of Prayer is held each year on the first Thursday of May and was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

“The main purpose is to intercede for America, our leaders and the moral direction of our nation,” Hardin said. “The National Day of Prayer is a Judeo-Christian expression of faith based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible. Musicians and ministers who would like to be involved in this special service should send an email to wilsoncountydayofprayer@yahoo.com.”
