Food ministry to get added help

Bob Evans, founder of Joseph’s Storehouse Food Ministry, invites all hungry families of Wilson County to the monthly food giveaway Saturday from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

New applicants are required to present two forms of identification, and one must have a picture, such as a driver’s license. They must also bring proof of a Wilson County address, such as an electric bill or water bill, and proof of their total household income, such as a pay stub or bank statement.

“As a special treat, there will also be about 75 members of the Concerned Motorcyclists of Tennessee who will assist with the food giveaway this month,” Evans said. “They will be riding their bikes in a large group from Four Mile Hill to join us at our facility on Tater Peeler Road. We really appreciate this wonderful group of people who will be donating their time by coming out to help the less fortunate in our area.

“We have lots of truckloads of food which are donated to us, but we are needing more partners to help us financially to bring it into the warehouse to give it away. We are presently serving only Wilson County at this time, but we are receiving more calls for food from surrounding counties. We also have lots of requests for food from single mothers with young children and we are so grateful for our faithful supporters so don’t have to turn them away. Most people do not realize how much it costs to keep the refrigerators and freezers running; the expense of fueling the trucks; and the monthly maintenance on our vehicles and facilities.

“We can bring in a whole semi-truckload of food for $1,900, which is easily done if 19 people will each give $100, or 38 people will each give $50.”

Donations can be mailed to Joseph’s Storehouse Food Ministry at 1960 S.E. Tater Peeler Road, Lebanon, TN 37090.

Volunteers are also needed and encouraged to help, and they should arrive between 8-8:30 a.m. If groups of more than six plan to attend, they must call the office at 615-453-5777 or register online at joestorehouse.com in order to participate.
