The Tennessee Department of Transportation has several projects under way in Wilson County.
Perhaps the most visible of these is the widening project on Interstate 40. The current project includes the addition of two lanes in each direction between the Mt. Juliet exit at mile marker 226 to the Highway 109 exit. There is a second phase to the widening project, which will add additional lanes from the Highway 109 exit to Hartmann Drive.
Engineering on the second phase is currently under way.
The engineering phase of reconstruction projects on Highway 109 is also in process. The area affected includes south of Dry Fork Creek to south of the Cumberland River and north of U.S.70 to south of Dry Fork Creek.
State Route 141 or Hartsville Pike is also scheduled for improvements.
There will be new construction north of Lovers Lane to U.S. 70 and a widening project from south of Spring Creek to north of Lovers Lane. TDOT officials are in the process of obtaining right-of-way for these projects.
Other projects coming in the future include turn lanes at the entrance to the flea market and safety improvements on Cumberland Street at Main Street.
