The Wilson County Commission approved several items at its Monday meeting, including accepting a bond for the new director of schools.
The commission unanimously approved the bond for Director of Schools Donna Wright, who presented her first report to the commission. She thanked commissioners for the opportunity to serve as director and said she is “looking forward to the first day of school.”
Along those lines, commissioners unanimously approved a resolution declaring Aug. 3 “A Day of Prayer for Our Schools.”
Each of the county departments presented quarterly reports, keeping the commission updated on items, including the number of calls received by Wilson Emergency Management Agency, the property assessor’s report on assessed value for personal and commercial property in the county, among other items.
The commission also unanimously approved an appropriation from Build America Bonds left over from the Lebanon High School project to renovate the softball field at Wilson Central High School.
The commission also amended a resolution approved at the June meeting to supplement a capital outlay. The new resolution calls for an amount “not to exceed $1.24 million,” for new emergency services communication equipment, which increases the amount from the original $865,000.
