Purple Tigers break in new practice field

  After 87 years of practicing on the game field or on adjacent vacant lots which were too small for full drills, the Watertown Purple Tigers have benefit of a full-size practice field across Neal Road from their new Robinson Stadium on the school’s new campus on Sparta Pike. The Tigers will travel to Unionville in Bedford County to take on Community at 6 p.m. Friday in scrimmage action and go to Monterey at around 6 on Aug. 8. Donelson Christian will give the new stadium an informal dry run at 6 p.m. Aug. 12. DeKalb County comes in for a more formal opening Aug. 16 for a jamboree at 8 p.m. after the junior varsities play at 7. Watertown’s junior high will take on Carroll-Oakland at 6. After opening the season Aug. 22 at Cascade, the new stadium will officially open for business when Eagleville comes in Aug. 29.
