There‘s more than one way to skin a cat, or so they say. I can vouch for this having worked as a taxidermist in my younger days. I’ll allow you to absorb that information before I get right to the heart of something I want to pass along this week. Giving has taken on a whole new meaning in this day and age.
A while back we mentioned United Way of Wilson County was contacted by United Way Worldwide and given the opportunity to take on a new challenge. That challenge was to reinvent a United Way, which would encompass several counties in the Upper Cumberland region while maintaining the same service in Wilson County.
There are a lot of lawyer jokes out there, and there are a lot of lawyers in our county, so pardon me if I don’t share any jokes in this column. Actually, most of the attorneys I know have pretty tough skins and are usually the first to tell someone else a lawyer joke.
I love magic. Over the years I’ve tried to put a magic trick or two into my presentations. Working for United Way of Wilson County, I can usually sense the fear that I’m going to ask my audience for money, so a magic trick can break the ice and set everyone to ease.
We’re often asked what exactly we do at United Way of Wilson County. The simple answer is we help people. That’s it, no sense over complicating the issue. We work with other partners to help as many people as possible in Wilson County in our many communities.
