Lady Commanders finish third in tournament

The Lady Commanders finished third in the MTCAS tournament held this weekend and were the only single A school in the final four. An 8-3 loss to Brentwood gave Friendship the third place ranking.
Carrie Fry started the contest but was pulled after only one inning. Hailey Rutledge finished the game and added an inside the park homerun. Shelby McDonald added a hit and RBI.
In the previous games, Friendship secured a 2-0 win over Greenbriar with Jessi Couch and Kenzie Dye each getting a hit. Rutledge toosed the game and had three strikeouts.
The girls also notched victories over Camden (3-2) and Ravenwood (2-1). Fry struck out three in the victory over Camden and Sarah Huddleston added a hit.
Rutledge rang up nine strikeouts to score a win versus Ravenwood. She also had the only hit of the game in a 1-0 loss to Columbia Academy.
The Lady Commanders managed a come from behind win 4-1 over East Robertson. Fry fanned nine and Friendship had seven consecutive hits to earn the win in the final inning.
Friendship hosts Westmoreland at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
