Lady Dawgs dealt double defeat in TSC opener
MCKENZIE — Cumberland opened its TranSouth Conference schedule Saturday with a 1-0 and 11-1 double-header loss at Bethel.
Jessica Moon surrendered a second-inning home run to Theresa Crawly in losing her first-game pitcher's duel with Carthage-native Maegan Morris. Moon allowed three hits and no walks while striking out four. Morris surrendered four hits while fanning eight.
Alli Donnelly doubled as she had half of the Lady Bulldogs' hits.
Bethel scored seven runs off Lebanon High freshman Jennifer Brewington and Micky Geyman in the nightcap. Morris' two-run double and Brandi Funburg's two-run single were the big blows for the Lady Wildcats, who amassed 13 hits in climbing to 3-6 for the season and 3-3 in the TSC.
Cumberland scored in the third when Kassie Taylor was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Jaclyn George.
Paige Cooper allowed five hits and a walk for Bethel.
The Lady Bulldogs will bring a 2-2 season record into today's 1 p.m. conference twin bill with visiting Union at Junior Hawkins Field.
