Lady Trojans cruch Cumberland twice
No. 11 Trevecca passed the 40-win plateau Monday with a 9-2 and 11-0 TranSouth Conference sweep of host Cumberland.
The Lady Trojans broke open a 2-0 game with four runs in the fourth inning of the first game to chase starter Jessica Moon, who allowed 11 hits. Friendship Christian's Courtney Carr, Micki Geyman and Lebanon's Jennifer Brewington each worked an inning to finish up.
Sidney Crews and Jennifer Perkins homered for the Lady Trojans, who collected 16 hits. Sophomore Chelsea Bailey of Wilson Central went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Cumberland was held to four hits, including home runs by Alli Donnelly and Mt. Juliet's Amy Eden.
Bailey opened the second game with a home run off Brewington, who was lifted after 2 1/3 innings. Perkins, Ashley McCool, Laura Redmon and Cassady Crutchfield [twice] also went deep as Trevecca climbed to 41-6 for the season and 23-3 in the TSC.
Brewington was followed to the circle by Molly Wright and Donnelly as the trio surrendered 12 hits.
Jackie West singled for Cumberland's only hit againt Beth Castner, the last of three Trojan pitchers. Brittiany Johnson [24-4] and Stephanie Fisher combined to fire four no-hit innings as the Lady Dawgs dropped to 11-19, 9-15.
The Lady Bulldogs will host University of the Cumberlands in a non-conference double header at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
