Lebanon's Dewaal 18th in TSSAA state pole vault

MURFREESBORO — A hobbling Emile Dewaal finished 18th in the girls' state pole vault Wednesday with a 7-6 at Middle Tennessee State University.
The Lebanon junior, in the State Meet for the second straight year, hurt her foot during the subsectional two weeks ago.
Teammates Jenna Forrest and Icelyn Elie competed in the 100-meter high hurdle preliminaries. Forrest finished 10th in :16.06 seconds while Elie was 13th in 17.29 seconds. Neither qualified for today's final.
But Elie will return to MTSU today for the high jump at 10:15 a.m. and the triple jump at 11:30.
Also today are the boys' running prelims. Matthew Maynard will run the 110-meter hurdles to start the afternoon session at 3 p.m. and the 300 hurdles at 4:25. In between, the Blue Devil quartet of Drew Fairchild, Adrian Woods, William Benford and Ken Walton will run the 4-by-200 relay prelims.
Another Wilson County athlete competing Wednesday was Mt. Juliet freshman Emily Wilson, who finished 18th in the 3,200 meters in 12:24.8.
