Martin Methodist sweeps CU
Martin Methodist visited Cumberland on Monday and came away with a 6-4 and 9-2 sweep of the Lady Bulldogs.
The RedHawks overcame a 2-0 Cumberland lead with six scores in the top of the sixth inning of the first game to pin the loss on reliever Micki Geyman, who came on for starter Alli Donnelly that inning.
Katie Lavender had the big hit a home run and four RBI for Martin Methodist.
Liz Adams scattered nine Cumberland hits, including a home run by leadoff batter Jamie Smith and a double by freshman Courtney Carr of Friendship Christian, who drove in two runs. Both had two hits each, as did Ashley Ferguson and Mt. Juliet's Amy Eden.
Martin Methodist put together 13 hits in the nightcap against Jessica Moon and Lebanon freshman Jennifer Brewington. Lori Lindsey and Lindsey Merritt each drove in two runs on three hits for the RedHawks, who improved to 26-4 for the season and 15-1 in the TranSouth Conference.
Carr had a two-run single to stake Cumberland [8-14, 6-10] to a short-lived 2-0 lead in the third. Eden and Wilson Central's Morgan Wills had the other Lady Bulldog hits, both of which were doubles.
