MJ's Pigue transfers to Trevecca
Casey Pigue will join her former Mt. Juliet teammates at Trevecca Nazarene University for the spring semester.
The 5-9 freshman guard is transferring to the NAIA power from NCAA Division I Arkansas-Little Rock where she will join former Lady Bear teammates Christian Gibson and Paige McFarlin, both also freshmen. Current Mt. Juliet player K.C. VanAtta will join the Lady Trojans next year to play for her father, Coach Gary VanAtta.
"I'm excited about Casey transferring to Trevecca," Gary VanAtta said. "With all the good things you hear about her as a player, she's even a better person. She's no stranger to campus. Casey was around TNU growing up. She will fit in just fine. It will be like coming home."
Pigue, Gibson, McFarlin and K.C. VanAtta joined current Belmont sophomore Alysha Clark in leading the Lady Bears to the 2005 state championship with a 37-1 record. Mt. Juliet was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation by USA Today.
A two-time All-District 9-AAA honoree, Pigue was one of the top three-point marksmen in the Midstate at Mt. Juliet, sinking 72 behind the arc as a junior and 70 her sophomore season. She finished her high school career as an 85-percent free-throw shooter.
Pigue graduated in the top 10 percent of her class and was nominated as Mt. Juliet's Wendy's High School Heisman Award. She originally chose Arkansas-Little Rock over Liberty, Arkansas State and Clemson.
