She will be followed by John Newman, Chief of Staff and State Director of the Tennessee Republican Party. The event is being held to raise funds for the Help Center and Interact Scholarship programs at both Smith County and Gordonsville high schools.
The match, which is being sponsored by the Smith County Noon Rotary Club, is open to alumni from all years who competed at these two schools. “We are encouraging all former students at these two schools to come out and show their school spirit and help raise both funds and awareness for these programs,” said J.J. McCall, President—elect of the Smith County Noon Rotary Club. “It should also be great fun for non-participants to come out and watch these former rivals come out and, once again, go head-to-head for a great cause.”

Byars Dowdy started the Roar Run event to help promote fitness and healthy lifestyles throughout its community. The school's awareness of childhood obesity and illness called them to action in 2008 after learning that a large portion of students were considered above a healthy weight. One of the school's goals was to raise awareness of this problem and take steps to encourage more physical activity among its students along with their families and even within the community. It was decided that a 5k run/walk would be a great event not only for the school, but for the community. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of equipment to update/replace current physical activity areas and materials/resources needed for the current Coordinated School Health curriculum. This event is open to everyone. |
