Beverly Jean Byrd
Services for Ms. Byrd will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with the Rev. Don McElroy and Rev. David Freeman officiating. Entombment will be in Wilson County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be Monday, May 7 from 4-8 p.m. and after 11 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the funeral.
Ms. Byrd, 75, of Lebanon, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Quality Care Health Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church, LLL and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by parents, John G. Boyd and Elsie Mayes Boyd.
Survivors include: daughters, Bonnie B. Jones (Randy) of Flower Mound, Texas and Emily J. Byrd of Evensville, Tenn.; son, Ted G. Byrd (Nancy) of Evensville.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Memorial gifts may be made to American Diabetes Association, National Kidney Foundation or First Baptist Church.
Ligon & Bobo in charge of arrangements.
Services for Mrs. Keel have not been announced at this time. Sellars Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Keel, 93, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012 at The Pavilion in Lebanon.
Only 12 years after Oklahoma statehood, Keel was born in Connerville, Okla. into a large family whose father did not speak English so she grew up speaking Choctaw. Both of her parents were full-blood Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians. She enjoyed speaking Choctaw throughout her life.
She was educated in boarding schools established by the federal government for American Indians. She was the valedictorian at her graduation from Chilocco Indian School in northeastern Oklahoma.
Keel married a career soldier and lived in France and Germany in the early 1950s. She held various jobs, retiring as the manager of a neighborhood grocery store in Lawton, Okla. about 25 years ago. She joined her family in Lebanon in 2003 and lived at The Pavilion from 2010 until her death.
She enjoyed gardening, walking, talking with her grandchildren and loved her friends at the Lebanon Senior Center and Lebanon Square Apartments.
Survivors include: son, Franklin Keel; daughter-in-law, Kathie and their daughter, Caroline; three grandson; 10 great-grandchildren, who live in South Carolina, Wyoming and Utah.
