MT. JULIET – An officer discovered a woman’s body in a car early Thursday morning near the U-Store-It facility in south Mt. Juliet.

"Early this morning, Officer Michael Rountree was on routine patrol on Central Pike around 1:13 a.m. and became suspicious when he saw a car parked with the lights on," said police spokesman Sgt. Tyler Chandler. "The car was parked at the U-Store-It."

Chandler said Rountree discovered a "deceased white female in the driver's seat."

"She had been shot to death," said Chandler. "It appears at this time she was shot once."

According to Chandler, police are treating the incident as a homicide and will not release details of the scene or the woman's identity until the investigation is complete and relatives are notified.

Chandler said investigators have determined a person of interest related to the crime.
