A new president will soon take the helm at the Watertown/East Wilson County Chamber of Commerce.
Watertown attorney Robin Vance will step up as the 2013 chamber president.
Vance, who joined the Chamber in 2002, served as secretary in 2003 and as president in about 2006.
According to Vance, she already has a few things in store for her upcoming position.
“We’ve found that our events that we hold on the square are a terrific way to draw people,” said Vance. “I think I would like to see us maybe focus on a few of these events and make them bigger and stronger.”
She believes the town already has a good number of events.
“I don’t know if we need to add any more events; in 12 months, we have 18 events,” said Vance.
One of these events Vance would like to grow is the Watertown Music and Arts Festival, for which Vance will also be the new chairperson.
Another key focus for Vance will be membership.
“Our chamber is a lot different than how we operate the Lebanon Chamber,” said Vance. “Because we are a smaller chamber – we’ve never been a huge chamber – what I’d like to do is build our membership…The more diversity we have in our chamber, the more fresh ideas we have.”
One idea that is already being discussed is hiring someone to staff the chamber office part-time.
Vance said the position would essentially be an administrative assistant position.
