MT. JULIET - A furniture truck caught fire Friday morning, causing some lanes to be shut down.

Flames were shooting from the cab of a Southern Home Furniture delivery truck stopped at a red light headed east at Nonaville Road when two fire trucks arrived at the scene around 10:46 a.m.

"Smoke and flames were coming out of the cab," said Wilson Emergency Management Agency Lt. James Copas, who was at the scene. "The entire cab was involved when we got there."

Copas said the flames were licking into the back compartment of the truck before firefighters were able to knock down the fire.

Lakeview Station 4 and Mt. Juliet Station 3 firefighters responded to the fire.

Copas said the fire was extinguished in five minutes, and the driver and companion in the truck were unharmed. The truck was destroyed.

There is no known cause of the fire at this time. Copas said there was little furniture in the truck. A recliner was destroyed along with some furniture covers.
