The Jazz Alliance Big Band will kick off the Summer of Music, Theatre and Arts on Saturday at Charlie Daniels Park in Mt. Juliet.

The first Summer of Music, Theatre and Arts starts Saturday at Charlie Daniels Park.

The Jazz Alliance Big Band will play a variety of swing, big band and popular music. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. and concludes at 8:30 p.m.

This is the first in a free series of music, theatre and arts performances slated this summer in Mt. Juliet.

Arts Alliance spokesperson Gary Rabideau said those attending Saturday night are encouraged to dance.

"A local dance studio will provide ballroom dance lessons at 6 p.m.," he said. "We would like people to plan a picnic and bring their favorite blanket, some dancing shoes and enjoy the music."

He said all performances are family friendly and appropriate for all age groups.

The series will continue July 6 with Encore Theatre Co. performing "Cinderella Wore Combat Boots," which is a one-act play and a preview for its July play, "Red, White and Tuna."

Cedar Creek Community Band will end the series in October with a rousing sound. It is a 55-piece local brass, woodwind and percussion concert band. The other two dates are in the planning stage.

Sponsorships are available to support the production of the Summer Series. For more information, call Rabideau at 615-415-1740.
