Fast start propels Friendship past Clay County
CELINA — Friendship Christian's boys bolted out of the gate early and Coach Matt Bradshaw used the big lead as an opportunity to make up for lost practice time in a 54-45 win over Clay County on Friday.
The Commanders sailed to a 23-11 first-quarter lead and were up 34-20 at halftime. They led 45-26 through three periods as they won for the second time in as many outings following a late start due to the football team's run to the BlueCross Bowl last week.
"We got out on them pretty good," Bradshaw said. "We started working on some things. We haven't had a lot of days of practice.
"It was a good night. Anytime you can go to Clay County and get a win, it's good."
Michael Teeter stepped outside to throw in three 3-pointers on his way to 18 points for Friendship while Garrett McKnight tossed in two triples on his way to 14. Cameron Spaulding scored six points, John Hatcher five; Lee Maasen, Parker Teeter and John Doak three each and Adam Stephens two.
Scott Brown bucketed 11 points and Tyler Edwards 10 for Clay County.
Friendship will host Station Camp on Tuesday.
