Mrs. Mary Helen Whitfield Bass

Services for Mrs. Bass will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, at First Presbyterian Church in Lebanon with Dr. John Cheetham officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at the Gordonsville Cemetery in Gordonsville, Tenn. Visitation will be today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home at 241 West Main St., Lebanon, and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Bass, 82, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Quality Care Health Center of Alzheimer's complications. Born in Perry, Fla., the daughter of the late Mary Estelle Hendry and Benjamin Wycliffe Whitfield. She was a member of the La Ccoterie, a member and elder of First Presbyterian church, deeply involved in church work, in including Sunday School, Bible class, Morning Circle, handbell choir, sewing circles and craft fairs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sara Nell; and two brothers, Edwin and Harold.

Mrs. Bass is survived by her husband of 63 years, Col. Bernie S. Bass (USAF, Ret.) of Lebanon; sons Ronald Dennis Bass of Washington, D.C. and Mark Duncan (Ronda) Bass of St. Charles, Mo.; daughter, Cara (Robert) Bass Chipkevich of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, Ben Chipkevich of Memphis and Mary Ann Chipkevich of Burke, Va.; Stephanie Bass of St. Charles, Mo., and Spec. 1st Class Scott Bass, stationed in Italy; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Lebanon, the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
