Lewis Newland McCoy
Services for Mr. McCoy will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 9 at Hunter Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Price officiating. Interment will be in Carlen Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday and prior to services Monday.
Mr. McCoy, 87, of Watertown died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at his residence. He was a retired tool maker and member of the Shop Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Grace Smith McCoy; brothers, Frank Hardy McCoy, Brick McCoy and Adrin "Jack" McCoy; sisters, Ruth Wisniewski, Daisy Long and Lois Faye Billings; granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Middleton.
Survivors include: wife of 62 years Charlene Evans McCoy; daughter, Darlene Middleton of Louisville, Ken.; granddaughters, Angela Buckler of Louisville and Katie Middleton of Los Angels, Cal.; several nieces and nephews.
Mary Helen Averitt
Services for Mrs. Averitt will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Martin Thielen and Bishop Bob Spain officiating. Interment will be in Wilson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home 4-8 p.m. Monday.
Mrs. Averitt, 69, of Lebanon, died Saturday, June 6, 2008 at her residence. She was a registered nurse having worked at the Labonner Children's Hospital and Nashville Memorial Hospital. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was a member of the hand bell choir, the Stephen Ministry and had served on various committees. She was a member of the Garden Club, Jr. Women's Club, Lebanon Women's Christian Club, Leadership Wilson, Past President of the Tennessee Optometric Association Auxillary and Past President of the United Methodist Women. She was very active in community and school functions. She was also a nurse for the Volunteers Mission to Guatemala.
She is preceded in death by parents, E.G. Crowley Sr. and Mary Allyne Davis Crowley; and grandson, Benjamin Paul Averitt.
Mrs. Averitt is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dr. T. Ross Averitt; children, Teresa (Tim) Barlow of Gladeville, Kelly Vaughn (Audrey) Averiit of Cookeville, Stanley Ross (Kelly) Averitt of Lebanon and Amy (Mike) Wheeler of Murfreesboro; brother, Edwin Garrett (Donna) Crowley Jr.; sister, Susie (Gene) Hull of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Joel and Sarah Beth Barlow, Emily and Daniel Paul Averitt, Hailey, Hannah, Mattie and Andrew Ross Averitt, Mary Ruth and Julia Wheeler.
Honorary pallbearers will be The Questers Sunday School Class of the First United Methodist Church. Active pallbearers will be David Bingham, Jimmy Harper, Larry Oakley, Mac McClusky, Ken Clinard and Sam Cardwell. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society of First United Methodist Church.
