Funeral services for Mr. Weatherly will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Bartons Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Terry Cathey officiating. Interment will follow at Bartons Creek Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Monday at 3-7 p.m. at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home and Tuesday after 11 a.m. at Bartons Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Weatherly, age 87, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, after an extended illness.

He was born March 14, 1926, in Lebanon, attending schools here, graduating from Lebanon High School on a Friday night in the spring of 1944 and was immediately was drafted into service in the U.S. Navy, leaving Lebanon the following Monday for boot camp. He served as an operator of the brand-new technology “radar” on the destroyer, USS Renshaw DD499, in the South Pacific, earning three Bronze Stars. The ship was torpedoed as U.S. Naval forces steamed toward the Sea of Japan, limping unescorted back to Pearl Harbor and then final repairs at Seattle, Wash. While there he met his future bride, Lois VanHorn. He was proud of the fact that he shook hands with President Harry Truman on Naval Review Day in New York Harbor as he reviewed the fleet aboard the Renshaw. Returning after the war with his new bride, he resumed working at the Princess and later the Capitol theaters, which he had done through his high school years. He then began working at the newly arrived Lux Clock factory, where he became personnel manager and purchasing manager. He was an avid fisherman, quail and deer hunter. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey “Orb” and Miltie Lee Patterson Weatherly; and a sister, Volene Weatherly.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois VanHorn Weatherly; daughters, Karen (Donald) O’Roark; Darlene (Gary) Enzfelder; sister, Mary Evelyn (Tony) Bohannon; grandchildren, Glen Richard Enzfelder, Joy (David) Pine, Erin (Justin) Smith, Leeanna Garner; nephews, Richard (Karen) Bohannon, Michael (Sally) Bohannon, great grandchildren, Ella Kate Pine, Sienna Carin “CeCe” Pine, Eden Monroe Pine and Sofi Athena Smith.

Active pallbearers will be Richard Bohannon, Michael Bohannon, David Pine, Glen Enzfelder, Donald O’Roark, Paul Blackard, Jan Stembel and Gary Enzfelder.

Honorary pallbearers will be J.T. Harvey, Thomas Partlow, Dr. Morris Ferguson, David Enzfelder, Joe Hodge, Terry Ashe, Joe Driscoll and Dr. Tom Tom Roberson.

It was a pleasure working for Mr. Weatherly at Lux Time Division, Robertshaw Controls Company! He was a wonderful person. He will be greatly missed but Heaven will be blessed with his presence! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Weatherly's Family. Sincerely, Lena Ann and Wayne Love

I have known Mr. Weatherly my whole life. I met him at Lux. He and my father, George were great friends. What a great man! He will truely be missed.
