Frances Sanders Lanius

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Miller and Mike Flanagan officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-7 p.m. and Friday after 11 a.m. at Ligon & Bobo  Interment will be at the Leeville Cemetery.

Mrs. Lanius, 98, of Lebanon, entered into rest Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Hearthside. 

Born March 27, 1915, she was the daughter of the late William Fredrick Sanders and Lilly Josephine Fisher Sanders. She was raised in the Chestnut Mound community of Smith County and was a graduate of Smith County High School.  

Mrs. Lanius was an employee of the DuPont Company while living in Old Hickory, and she met and married her husband, Elmer Perry Lanius on June 13, 1934. They moved to Lebanon in 1939 and were married for 64 years, until his death in July 1998.

She served as secretary and bookkeeper for Perry’s M & M Sales for many years and later became co-owner of Parkland Flea Market, a business that she and her husband started in 1977. Mrs. Lanius was an active member of College Street Church of Christ for many years, and she later became a regular member of Maple Hill Church of Christ.  

She was an active homemaker and mother of two sons, Elmer Gwynn (Nancy) Lanius and Edward Perry (Shelia) Lanius; a grandmother of four, Anthony Dale Lanius, Robert Sherrill Lanius, Gingi Louise Lanius, and Ali Nichole (Tim) Dodd; one great-grandson, Matthew Perry Lanius. She was preceded in death by brothers: Frederick Burch Sanders, Edward Sherrill Sanders, Wendell Fisher Sanders; sisters: Faye Johnston-Hendicks and Inez Van Swearingen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond, Charles, Jerry Lanius, Bob Lawson, Alvilda Hancock, Dr. Hardie Sorrells, Bob VanHooser, Robert Springer, Harold Anderson. Active pallbearers will be John Richard Baker, Vince, Mike, Tony, Matthew and Bob Lanius.

The family wishes to say “Thank You” especially to Jenelle Drennan for her almost daily visits and care, to Bob and Donna Lawson, Kathrine Woods, Lounita and Trice Sampson, Maple Hill Church of Christ, and to all the staff of Hearthside, Sara Johnston, Robert Springer and Linda Ligon for their services and Niki Dodd, Robbie Mathis, Jo Doris Pride , Martha Seay, Carol Majors and Donna Butler for their care giving services, the doctors, nurses and staff of Gentiva Health Services and Gentiva Hospice for all the great work they do. The family request in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Maple Hill Church of Christ, 102 Maple Hill Road, Lebanon, TN 37087.
