Funeral services for Mr. Bass will be Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Giles Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Campbell officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. till service time Friday at the church.
Joe Gilford Bass, age 89, of Smyrna, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Son of the late Wilson and Bertha King Bass, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ima Mai Bass; son, Joe Howard Bass; grandson, Robert Judson Hollis; son-in-law, William Aubrey Gentry; stepmother, Clara Mae Bass; and brothers, Robert and John Howard Bass.
Gilford was a member of Giles Creek Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by daughters, Earline Hollis, of Danville, Ind., Mary Gentry and Gale Bass, both of Smyrna; grandchildren, William Chad Gentry, Jason Aubrey Gentry, James Howard Bass, Angela Jo Petty; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Shelby, Wyatt, Kayla, Chad, Destiny and Taylor; adopted grandchildren, Marsha, Glenn, David, Robert and Jean Hollis and numerous adopted great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew. Grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Hunter Funeral Home in Lebanon is in charge of arrangements.
