Funeral services for Mr. Beard will be held Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the Highland Heights Church of Christ at 1 p.m. with Greg Smith, Barry Keene and Clarence DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow at Wilson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 3-8 p.m. at Ligon and Bobo Funeral Home in Lebanon and Wednesday after noon at Highland Heights Church of Christ.
Mr. Beard, 90, a most wonderfully loving husband, father, and friend but above all a faithful, dedicated Christian, passed from this life in his home on Nov. 4, 2013, to be with his heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, the Lord of his life. R.H. was a calm, gentle, compassionate man with amazing intelligence and dexterous abilities. He loved spending time with his family and was so very much in love with Jo, his wife of 63 years, until the day he died.
Born on May 25, 1923, in Wilson County, Mr. Beard was the son of the late Robert Heber Beard, Sr. and the late Mai Josephine Northern Beard. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1941 and was an aircraft inspector with Textron Aerostructures in Nashville from which he retired in 1985. Mr. Beard also was the owner and operator of Lebanon Foundry Products Co. He was an original member of the Highland Heights church of Christ and served there as a deacon for many years as well as a teacher of the 6th grade Sunday School class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Carter and granddaughter, Josie Mae Beard.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Palmer Beard; four children, Bob Beard of Lebanon, Ann (Greg) Smith of Lebanon, Becky (F. H.) Gates of Murfreesboro and Richard (Tara) Beard of Lebanon; seven grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Emily (Corey) Mullins, Lucas (Ana) Gates, Vanessa (Douglas) Ribeiro, Ethan, Micah and Hope Beard; and five great-grandchildren, Iris Gates, Nathanael and Lucas Ribeiro, Enoch and Samuel Mullins; and niece, Emily Paulk of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.
Pallbearers will be grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and wives and deacons and wives of the Highland Heights Church of Christ, Dr. Ken Anderson and Pam Anderson.
The family would like to thank first of all our great God who blessed us by the life of R.H. (aka Bud, Daddy, Pa), a man of integrity and an amazing Christian example. We would also like to say “Thank you” to our wonderful Christian family at the Highland Heights Church of Christ for all of your loving support, to the Odyssey and Gentiva Hospice nurses and staff for your amazing care and to all of the wonderful caregivers who helped us be able to care for R. H. in the home he built. May God bless you for your kindnesses.
