Ruby Allison

Funeral services for Mrs. Allison will be conducted Sunday afternoon, April 13 from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with her pastor Elder Junior Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson County Memorial Park.

The Allison family will receive friends Saturday from 3-8 p.m. and Sunday after 10 a.m. at Sanderson in Carthage.

Mrs. Ruby Allison, of the Popes Hill community, died at 12:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon April 10, 2014 at the Riverview Regional Medical Center where she was admitted March 24 following a period of declining health. She was 91.

Born Ruby Jo Hale in Smithville on July 13, 1922, she was one of six children of the late Charlie and Hettie Dunham Hale.

Siblings preceding her in death were two brothers and a sister who died in infancy, J. Loyd Hale and Mary Hale Hester.

On Sept. 20, 1943, she was united in marriage in Rossville, Ga. by Justice of the Peace Herman O. Bowman to Grant community native Johnnie Roy Allison. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1963 at the age of 40 after only 22 years of marriage.

Mrs. Allison was saved at the age of 11 in 1933 at the Long Branch Methodist Church near Lancaster.

On Aug. 28, 1949, she was baptized into the full fellowship of the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the late Elder G.A. Gregory, where she had remained a faithful member.

Mrs. Allison first was employed at the Lebanon Garment Factory and later at the Texas Boot Co. in Lebanon.

Before her retirement in 1984, she was employed in the dietary department of the former Smith County Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are her two children, a daughter, Brenda “B.J.” Allison of the home; a son, Lenard Allison and wife, Barbara, of Lebanon; sister, Charlene Tomlin, of Uniontown, Ky.; three grandchildren, Duane and Kimberly Allison and Tammy King; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Sanderson Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
