An idea that began about two years ago became a reality in May 2013 on the Lebanon square.

The tourism division of the Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce wanted to create a live music series for May, June and July that would generate excitement, create an opportunity for entertainment, shop at night downtown and have fun with neighbors and friends.

Surprise to all, Jammin’ with the General was born.

This three-month live music series began in May with Randy Moore and the Fabulous Suedes band jamming with rock and roll music, a little bit of Elvis, a little bit of soul and an evening of fun for all ages.

In June everyone was delighted when one of Lebanon’s local entertainers agreed to perform on the Jammin’ stage.  Daryl Singletary and his band drew a crowd of fans from Texas, Arkansas, Alabama and Tennessee.  That evening began with instructors teaching the audience some basic two step and line dance routines, and then the stage came alive with Daryl singing his top hits.

The last Jammin’ event took place in July with a fair theme. Cotton candy, snow cones and a honeybee mascot reminded everyone of the August fair.  Entertainment this evening was provided by The Chessmen.

Tommy Vanatta and his band have been entertaining and rocking since 1965, and rocked the square with their ’50s, ’60s, ’70s and ’80s music.

The three events were made possible by the wonderful sponsors that contributed dollars, energy and time to make the events a success.

A special thanks goes to our corporate sponsors, CedarStone Bank,  CrossStyle Church, Historic Lebanon, Vanderbilt University Medical, WANT,  and Wilson County Farm Bureau and Wes Dugan.  Major sponsors were the city of Lebanon, Crystal Couture Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial and Wilson County Promotions.

To say this idea became a reality is an understatement, to say Jammin’ with the General was very successful was truly a dream come true for many that serve on the tourism committee.

Expectations were not to jam in August, due to the fair, but jam again in September. After several conversations, scheduling conflicts and days getting shorter the decision has been made to postpone Jammin’ with the General until May 2014.  Plans are being made for the 2014 series, and the following dates have been scheduled: May 15, June 19, and July 17. Mark your calendars now, and make your plans to be on the Lebanon square for the 2014 live Music series Jammin’ with the General.

Thanks again to everyone that sponsored, entertained, volunteered and especially the merchants on the Lebanon square that stayed open and welcomed everyone to join them in the first annual three month live music Jammin’ with the General series.

We invite you to jam with usagain in May, June and July 2014.
