Well, the big weekend for National Football League hopefuls starts today. I can say I’m interested in who the Titans will choose this year, seeing as we have a couple pretty big needs.

It’s also going to be interesting to see what new coach Ken Whisenhunt will do with our selections.

I have a feeling nothing will be done with what I feel is the biggest need, and I doubt I’m alone in thinking that is a quarterback. Jake Locker has had his moments while wearing the two-toned blue, but the last season he couldn’t stay healthy long enough to make any impact. I think it is time to look for the quarterback of the future.

I do figure that some defensive needs will be addressed, since we lost a few defensive players to free agency. There appear to be some pretty good prospects in that department that will still be available when our pick comes. Of course, draft weekend is not all about your first-rounders anymore. Sometimes, those third- or fourth-round picks turn out to be just as big of a contribution (or sometimes more of) than someone who is picked in the top of the round.

Then there has been all the excitement surrounding Johnny Manziel, or “Johnny Football” as most people call him now. Where will he go? How will that team do with him at the helm?

Several draft watchers have speculated that while he is the highest profile quarterback, there are several others who can be just as valuable for any team. I never really watch the draft, I just keep up on the internet, so I’m sure the top 10 picks will be quite interesting when I get around to reading about them.

Not that I much care about any but ours. Perhaps the Saints, since I like them too. Once all the picks have been made and practice is under way, I’ll probably pay closer attention. I’d like to see how things are shaping up before we hit the preseason in a few months.

Personally, as a life-long fan of the Titans, I want to see them succeed this season. Yes, this past season was better than the one before, but we were better than we played last year. Again, I’m sure I’m not alone on this one - I want to be able to see the two-toned blue in the playoffs this year. It’s been a little too long for my taste.
