Talking to a friend of mine recently, she said to me that she could apply music lyrics to a lot of situations in her life. This got me thinking, what do I do that would equate to that?
Well, the answer is this – there is a movie quote for almost any situation.
I know you’re probably thinking I’m nuts, but it’s the truth. At least for me. When someone I know says something that makes no sense, or is not feasible, I have the old standby from The Sandlot – “You’re killing me, Smalls!” That’s probably the one I use the most. You can ask my friends and family, they hear it quite a lot.
If you get in a situation where you can’t think of a way around it, or out of it, as the case may be, channel the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” standard “Damn, we’re in a tight spot!”
And in the holiday spirit, who can ignore the Chevy Chase holiday hit “Christmas Vacation.” Know someone who’s having trouble with their Christmas light display? All in good fun, try calling out to them “The little lights are not twinkling!”
A more recent movie quote that comes to mind is borrowed from “The Hunger Games.” Instead of wishing someone good luck, tell them “May the odds be ever in your favor.” Good luck is a wonderful sentiment, but it sounds so much cooler when you use the movie quote.
These are just a few of the multitude of opportunities available for taking a line from your favorite movie and using it in daily life. I’m sure that most anyone can find those movie gems that come to mind when they need a good one-liner. I know I can rattle off a half-dozen others, but I won’t bore you with all that.
This leads to a second point. It would appear I watch too many movies. Whether that is a bad thing, I’ll let someone else decide. But to be honest, movies and books are the best way I know to escape from the madness that sometimes comes around in the daily grind.
When I want to relax after a rough day, whether that be at work or doing something else, I have a tendency to pop in one of the Harry Potter series movies. More recently, I have started to use the Despicable Me movies. What better way to make yourself feel better than to watch the minions running across the screen, I ask you?
So no matter what the situation may be, you can almost always find that quote to brighten your day, or even someone else’s. Again, you may think I’m nuts, but that would be “Inconceivable!”
