Hello Lebanon Democrat readers. I am a senior at Lebanon High School and the fashion editor for the newspaper at the school.

I have been asked to write a weekly column for The Lebanon Democrat for the next year about fashion, and I could not be more excited than I am right now.  Fashion is something I am passionate about and hopefully something I can help my fellow readers become passionate about, as well.

Throughout the next year we will cover everything there is to know about fashion… well, almost everything.  They gave me one year, and one column a week, which means 52 columns to cover the most powerful art there is.

Fashion is a free expression and a way to show a person’s individuality.  You can know a person’s whole personality and how they are feeling just by what they are wearing, whether they are 16, 26, 56 or 76 years old.

Luckily, Lebanon is booming with boutiques and stores that offer a wide variety of clothing and accessories for all ages.  So not only can you stay close to home, but you can also help out the local economy.

There have been three top trends happening this summer that everyone needs to be a part of floral, lace and the jean theme. All these local boutiques can help you out with these three trends, as well.

Floral is a very popular fashion trend piece everyone is raving about this summer and makes you look cool and collected in this rapid summer heat. All sorts of boutiques in Lebanon have floral featured clothing from a floral shirt or floral printed shorts.

Make it light, and make it bright. Lace is definitely the way to go this summer with it trendy and not to heavy with the heat. Lace can be easily worn by all ages and will always be timeless.

The jean theme of summer 2014 is selling out. Every store you go to has a classic jean button down, and one definitely needs to be in your closet.  From wearing it with a solid skirt, printed floral shorts or classic white pants, the jean button down will go with just about anything and will stay popular throughout the coming fall.

Next week, we will get started on our 52-week challenge to bring out the fashionistas we all really are.
