Kennedy Pope: Lipstick can make, break a look

As August comes to a close and September nears we all are in the “what are we going to wear” stage. We are all tired of wearing our summer clothes, and ready to pull our fall favorites out of our closets even though it is still 85 degrees.

As August comes to a close and September nears we all are in the “what are we going to wear” stage. We are all tired of wearing our summer clothes, and ready to pull our fall favorites out of our closets even though it is still 85 degrees.

Whether you wear your summer outfits or fall apparel, your lipstick plays an important role.  Who would think that lipstick would be important?  Well it most definitely is.

You could be wearing the same thing you wore yesterday, but if you have on a bold statement lipstick no one would ever know you repeated outfits from the day before.  Matching your lipstick with your wardrobe can be flattering when done correctly, and atrocious when done wrong.

A definite fashion faux pas is bold lips and bold eyes. Just because you have bold lipstick on does not mean you should choose a bold eye shadow.  Eye shadow and lipstick are both very important to pull the outfit together; however, doing both bold eye shadow and bold lipstick, is your enemy in disguise.

The outfit you are wearing, whether you are wearing your summer or fall clothing, is definitely essential, but during the transition between those outfits is when you can add strong lipstick to make a statement.

The hottest colors in style right now are dark purples and pinks. MAC makeup creates the long-lasting, everyday lipstick and the bold purple called “Rebel.”

What is so great about Rebel is that it looks great on every skin tone. When you first open that dark purple tube of lipstick it may give you some apprehension or anxiety, but then you realize it is your new favorite statement piece. The dark purples fit every season from the hottest day of August to the snowiest day of January.

As for all the days in between when you do not want to go bold with purple, you can always go for the classic red.  Red lipstick is a timeless lip color that women have been wearing since the early ’20s. Through the last decade, red lips have never gone out of style, so why abandon this classic color now? Red lipstick is another shade of lip color that goes with every skin tone.

Never go a day without wearing lipstick, it gives you the opportunity to add a strong accent to your outfit; no one likes a girl with invisible lips. So as we are making this transition from our summer styles to our fall wardrobe, and unsure of what to wear, we will always have our bold lipsticks to back us up.

I hope to be seeing all of my fellow fashion phenoms at the Wilson County Fair this week rocking the bold statement lip color…the bolder, the better.
