Shutdown shows lack of cooperation in government

Both sides of the aisle – Democrats and Republicans – should borrow a line from the Beetles song and “give peace a chance.”

Both sides of the aisle – Democrats and Republicans – should borrow a line from the Beetles song and “give peace a chance.”

After all, isn’t that all we’re really saying?

In all seriousness, Congress is embroiled in a political showdown that led to a government shutdown Monday at midnight. Ironically, seriousness is the least of anything found on Capitol Hill these days. And both sides are equally as guilty.

In what resembles more of a kindergarten class in the thralls of a dodge-ball game, the Republican-controlled House and the Democratic-led Senate have taken simple shots across the bow to new levels.

The long and short of this fight, which boils down to whether the Affordable Care Act should stand or be repealed, has resulted in government shutdown.

It’s almost as if one of those kindergarteners threw up his hands, took his ball and went home.

Let’s hope our nation’s leaders put on some big-boy pants and come together on this issue of affordable health care for all soon before we all suffer.
