Thumbs Up/Thumb Down: The Band Perry rocks house at Wilson Central

Thumbs up to The Band Perry for performing as a reward to Wilson Central High School students on Monday as winners of Celebrate My Drive. The contest, sponsored by State Farm, encouraged safe driving habits by asking school supporters to vote for their favorite school. Wilson Central won the national contest and received $100,000 in addition to the concert.

Thumbs up to The Band Perry for performing as a reward to Wilson Central High School students on Monday as winners of Celebrate My Drive. The contest, sponsored by State Farm, encouraged safe driving habits by asking school supporters to vote for their favorite school. Wilson Central won the national contest and received $100,000 in addition to the concert. 

Thumbs up to the supporters, volunteers and workers at Brooks House on breaking ground Wednesday on a 1,500-square-foot addition at the women and children’s homeless shelter in Lebanon. 

Thumbs up to all the students who took part Saturday in the annual Think Green, Think Clean litter challenge. In the end, 685 15-gallon bags of trash were collected. Walter J. Baird Middle School was the winner of the Think Green, Think Clean challenge and received $2,000. 

Thumbs up to all who supported various charitable works and events last weekend across Wilson County. Jere’s Ride, in its first year, raised more than $30,000 for Empower Me Day Camp while honoring the late Jere McCullough, who died in August during a bicycle ride in Murfreesboro. The Whip Crackin’ Rodeo was held Friday and Saturday. The event helps raise money for several Wilson County organizations. The Second Chance Prom was held Saturday to raise money for the Lebanon High School Band Boosters. 

Thumbs up to Lebanon native Jared Throneberry, a member of the SpeakUp NASBA Toastmasters International Club, for winning the District 63 International Speech Contest last month.  

Thumbs up to Lebanon High School junior Dalton Teel for being elected Middle Tennessee Regional FFA vice president recently. Thumbs up also to Kaelyn Baird and Tylor Grauherr for winning at the Middle Tennessee and state Agriscience Fair.
