Those of you with impeccable memory might recall that I wrote an article a while back called “Puppy or Proof of Insanity?” And those of you without impeccable memory are probably like, What did I eat for breakfast this morning (Don’t feel bad - I’m right there with you). Anyway, I’m hoping that you don’t remember this particular article, because in it, I revealed that getting new pets is a truly insane thing to do and not something that I should ever do again.

The last few weeks, I have brought to light the double couponing disappearance at many Kroger stores around the U.S. Although currently we have not seen this disappearance in the Middle Tennessee area, we need to educate ourselves on the other shopping savings that might replace this policy within our area.

When you think of children today, what do you think of? They are kind, compassionate, selfless individuals who always put others first, obey their parents and wait patiently for the things they do not have? Not many children I know. Maybe they get there eventually… but all children are born with a selfish, sinful nature that demands that they be put first at all times.

Thumbs up to Whitney Lackey, who plans to compete in the Special Olympics USA Games in June. Lackey, 17, was diagnosed with rare tuberous sclerosis complex when she was 2 months old. She will be competing in bocce.

On Tuesday, the Tennessee Department of Education announced that third- through eighth-grade Quick Scores, the portion of students’ final grades that come from TCAP testing as mandated by state law, would not be available until May 30th. This means that elementary and middle schools across the state will either fail to follow the legal reporting standards or will be required to distribute final report cards twice in one month.

Cancer…Wow, never thought I’d hear that word on my 72nd birthday. I heard those words last year, and my life changed. I thought I was doing all the right things, going for checkups, having mammograms, trying to exercise a little each day and staying busy with my family, friends, crafts and spending time between Lebanon and my home in the Smoky Mountains.

Every where you look, you can find an abundance of simple, sweet wines in Tennessee. You don’t have to go far to find muscadine, Concord and a host of other sweeties in bottles with homemade labels. In our Southern climate, it’s just easier to grow these sweet, thick-skinned grapes than to cultivate the more temperamental European wine grapes.
