Saints get first win over Tigers in four years
MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet Christian's boys quickly overcame a one-point halftime deficit to blow out Watertown 60-43 Thursday night.
Watertown led 19-18 at halftime before the Saints marched to a 40-28 third-period lead as Mt. Juliet Christian beat the Purple Tigers for the first time in at least four years.
Mt. Juliet Christian scored the first 10 points before the Purple Tigers pulled within 10-7 at the first-quarter break.
Forward Victor Underwood caused matchup problems by going outside to sink 6 of 8 three-pointers en route to 31 points for Mt. Juliet Christian. Senior wing Bryce Middleton overcame first-half foul trouble to toss in 10 of his 14 in the second half. Point guard Austin Wortman threw in three triples on his way to 13 while Chris Frazier finished with two as the Saints moved to 3-4 for the season and 1-2 in District 8-A.
Aaron Fountain tossed in 10 of his 12 points in the first half for Watertown before Jonathan Roberts chased him in a box and one the rest of the way. Justin Breece scored seven; Victor Loza, Seth Pritchett and Dalton Phillips each finished with five, Levi Tschaekofske three and Nick Lennox, James Shrum and John Kneisel (in his first game of the season after injuring his hand during football) two apiece.
Watertown will host DeKalb County on Saturday night while Mt. Juliet Christian, in the midst of a nine-game homestand, will entertain Community Christian on Monday.
