Saints shut out Lighthouse 2-0

MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet Christian made both first-half goals stand for a 2-0 season-opening victory over Lighthouse Christian on Tuesday.
Noah Stroop took an Ethan Luffman assist and gave Mt. Juliet Christian a 1-0 lead. Lee Fallin passed to Dylan Gammon, who made it 2-0.
Goalie Ryan Dunnawold did the rest with four saves. But it was the defense led by his brother, sweeper Luke Dunnawold, which did the bulk of the work for first-year coach Lloyd Sharp.
"The boys played well," Sharp said. "Both teams played pretty well.
"They have a very young team, well coached, but very young. We pretty much dominated in time of possession. The guys were excited to play, plenty of enthusiasm."
The Saints had nine of their 14 shots on goal in the second half. Justin Branim led the offense with five shots.
Mt. Juliet Christian will remain at home Thursday when Middle Tennessee Christian comes in for a 4:30 p.m. match.
