Sex offender arrested near school
September 1, 2005
A man wanted on charges of failing to register as a sex offender was arrested moments after dropping a child off at Tuckers Crossroads Elementary School, police reports indicate.
The suspect, identified as David Allen Cabrera, 31, of Trousdale Ferry Pike, is being held without bond on the charge as well as for a probation violation, records on file at the Wilson County Sheriff's Department indicate. He was also charged with driving on a revoked license, documents show.
According to the reports on file, Capt. Gary Keith was searching for Cabrera to serve the warrant charging him with failing to register as a sex offender when he received possible information about the suspect's whereabouts.
"I had two warrants in hand for his arrest when I noticed him on school property dropping off a small boy," Keith's report stated.
According to the officer's report, Keith stopped the vehicle a short distance from the school and took Cabrera into custody without incident.
He said little was known about the suspect's relationship to the child late Wednesday.
"We know it wasn't his child," Keith said.
However, he noted there were no indications the child had been harmed and said officials suspect the youth was merely given a ride to school by the suspect.
Authorities indicated, however, they would continue to investigate the incident.
Officials said Cabrera, who according to arrest reports is a Bradley County native and unemployed, could make his initial court appearance today.
