Big inning helps CU to season-opening win
MARIETTA, Ga. — Kevin T. Greene tossed six-plus effective innings and Josciel Veras and Craig Monson each collected two hits and two RBIs, as Cumberland used a six-run fifth inning to win its season-opener 6-2 over Southern Poly on Friday.
The Bulldogs and the Hornets will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Central Time to conclude the series.
Greene, a junior lefthander from Knoxville, allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts to pick up the victory. He retired eight of the first nine batter of the game and ran into trouble just once, when SPSU plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth.
