BREAKING NEWS: Gaines' buzzer beater keeps Watertown alive
Macieo Gaines' jumper in the lane at the buzzer kept Watertown going in the Region 4-A tournament with a 43-41 win over visiting Pickett County in the opening round Saturday night.
Pickett had handed the Purple Tigers one of their three losses. But Watertown had to rally for the second time to beat the Bobcats and pick up its 27th triumph of the year. WHS will be at home at around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday night for a semifinal game against Jackson County, which ended Friendship Christian's reign as state champions with a come-from-behind 53-45 win in Gainesboro.
In Region 5-AAA, Wilson Central bolted to a 36-2 lead and cruised past visiting Rossview 74-46 while at Dickson County, Mt. Juliet fell behind early and came up short 73-65. Central will take on Hendersonville on Tuesday night in semifinal action at Beech.
