BREAKING NEWS: Police escort man out of council meeting
Police chief Scott Bowen forcefully dragged a Lebanon man from a city council meeting Tuesday night.
After Mayor Philip Craighead deemed Derek Dodson's comments "abusive," Craighead asked Bowen to escort Dodson out of City Hall. Dodson spoke in opposition of a proposed resolution concerning the development of a Cumberland Center arena on the east side of the city.
Craighead was expected to bring the resolution before the council Tuesday and ask for a 2/3-majority approval to send law changes to Wilson County's legislative delegation to allow the arena to be built and operated by a board of directors made up mostly of elected officials. The resolution must also garner 2/3-majority approval from the Wilson County Commission.
Dodson has been outspoken in the past concerning the proposed arena. A five-minute recess was called following Dodson's exit to allow order to be restored at the meeting. He was not charged.
