BREAKING NEWS: Watertown, Wilson Central reach region finals
Watertown's boys reached the region basketball finals for the first time since the 1930s by clinging to a 56-54 win over Jackson County in the Region 4-A semifinals on Tuesday night in the Purple Tigers' gym.
Meantime, Wilson Central's boys returned to the Region 5-AAA final by overcoming a second-half deficit to oust Hendersonville 61-56 at Beech.
Both teams will play at 7 p.m. Thursday in region final action and in sectional play at 7 p.m. Monday.
Watertown will take a 28-3 record into its game against Clarkrange while Wilson Central will bring a 24-8 mark into its contest with Dickson County. Thursday's winners will play at home on Monday while the loser goes on the road.
This is Wilson Central's fifth trip to a region final in the school's 12-year history while Watertown is at the mark for the first time since 1934, well before the TSSAA instituted the sectional.
