BRENTWOOD — Brentwood's girls riddled Mt. Juliet with seven third-quarter three-pointers Saturday night as the Lady Bruins stopped the Lady Bears one game short of the State Tournament with a 64-50 sectional victory.
Playing without leading scorer and rebounder Ronjanae DeGray, who suffered a torn ACL in last Wednesday's Region 5-AAA final at Beech, the Lady Bears had muscled their way to a 26-17 lead late in the second quarter before a baseline shot by Jessi Boozer trimmed the margin just before the halftime buzzer.
That buzzer should have been an air-raid siren as Brentwood went on a 17-3 blitz to open the second half as the Lady Bruins drove inside and kicked out to the shooters. The third quarter ended in the midst of a 12-0 run by the home team which opened a 48-33 cushion early in the fourth.
