Bulldogs record pair of 5-2 wins

Three Cumberland pitchers combined for a one-hitter in the second game and Hunter Bartlett collected two hits and Brodie Ross drove in a pair of runs in the opener, as Cumberland swept a doubleheader from West Virginia Tech by identical 5-2 scores on Wednesday at Ernest L. Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium.

Leo Sierra (1-0) worked four hitless innings and Garrett Treadwell pitched 1.2 scoreless frames before Kevin P. Greene allowed a one-out single to Grant Williams in the seventh, breaking up the no-hit bid. It was the first start and the longest outing of Sierra’s career. He gave up one run, struck out three and walked 10 for pick up the victory.

Matthew Segdwick (1-0) worked four innings in his first career start for the win in the opener, allowing two runs on two hits and working around eight walks. Jake Collier struck out three in two hitless innings of relief and Craig Monson got the final three outs for his first save.
