Burroughs named OVC Softball Player of the Week

BRENTWOOD — After enjoying one of the best offensive days in school history, Austin Peay softball player Laurel Burroughs was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

A sophomore second baseman from Lebanon, the former Friendship Christian star recorded five hits in seven at bats Saturday at Trevecca - a .714 batting average.

All five hits went for extra bases, including three doubles, a triple and a home run.

She also scored five runs and drove in seven, including in each at-bat of the doubleheader's second game.

Overall she totaled 13 total bases, for a 1.857 slugging percentage, while recording a .750 on-base percentage.

Defensively, Burroughs flawlessly handled all three chances while recording the Lady Govs' only stolen base of the twinbill.

It was the first time the sophomore has earned a weekly OVC honor.
