Chowbay's 18 leads Bears past Bucs

MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet's boys seized control of Beech in the second quarter of a 53-39 win Tuesday night.

The Golden Bears outscored the Buccaneers 15-5 in the period to turn an 11-9 edge into a 26-14 halftime lead as they moved to 12-10 for the season and 7-4 in District 9-AAA.

Nolan Chowbay tossed in two three-pointers in leading Mt. Juliet with 18 points. Reagan Johnson notched nine points while Hunter Gilbert hit a pair of threes on his way to eight. John Mark Bell also swished a pair of triples to go with a free throw for seven points while James Womack scored six and Thomas Sharpe five.

Philip Baites buried four triples in leading Beech with 16 points while Drew Pentecost pitched in with 10.

Mt. Juliet will travel to Hendersonville on Friday night.

Fox leads McClain boys past Franklin Christian

McClain Christian's boys beat Franklin Christian 61-42 Tuesday night at Immanuel Baptist Church for their 13th win in their last 14 games.

Brandon Fox finished with 37 points and 20 rebounds while Weston Rountree racked up 13 rebounds as McClain climbed to 13-6 for the season.

"Brandon Fox put up video-game numbers," McClain coach Tony McLeod said. "He played a great all-around game.

"Weston Rountree's defense really set the tone."

Earlier, McClain's girls dropped a 35-29 decision.

The Lady Bulldogs led 9-8 following the first quarter before falling behind 19-17 by halftime and 23-21 going into the fourth as they fell to 5-8.

Edye Burke tossed in 10 points for Franklin Christian.

Shelby Maxwell poured in 18 points from McClain's backcourt while Sydney Rice racked up nine and Haley McCanless two.

The Lady Bulldogs were coming off a 41-5 crushing of Currey Ingram the night before at Immanuel.

McClain led 13-0 following the first quarter and 30-1 at halftime.

Rice scored 17 points while Maxwell added eight, McCanless and Victoria Walker six each and Madeline Walker four.

Both McClain teams will travel to Hartsville on Friday night for a Pink Out game at Trousdale County to raise awareness of breast cancer. The Bulldogs will wear the special white and pink uniforms used in last year's game while the Yellow Jackets don all pink for the event, which tips off at 6 p.m.
