After posting a 24-17 road victory on Saturday, Cumberland moved up two spots to No. 19 in the third regular-season edition of the NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Monday.
Lemeco Miller rushed 29 times for 160 yards and three touchdowns and the Bulldog defense made two stands in the fourth quarter to hold on for the victory at UVA-Wise on Saturday. Cumberland fumbled deep in UVA-Wise territory in the fourth quarter and had two snaps over the head of the quarterback stall drives in the second half.
CU improved to 3-1 on the season with the win and Miller leads the Mid-South Conference in rushing yards (435) and touchdowns (7) and ranks fourth nationally in total scoring (42) and eighth in rushing yards. The Bulldogs also rank ninth nationally in rushing per game (251.8).
Cumberland will play at Pikeville this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Central Time before returning home Oct. 6 for Homecoming, taking on Union College at 1:30 p.m. at Nokes-Lasater Field.
